Let’s go FLY a KITE!

1_0 (2)-1
Leif flies his kite at "Small Beach" (we rename everything to suit ourselves!) at low tide while the sun sets.  These photos were all taken by Jason and with the cell phone.

Jason has been taking Leif out kite-flying pretty much every day.  They're learning the ins and outs of kite flying, while Leif gets lessons in aerodynamics from Jason (how he knows all of this stuff, I may never know, but he does know it!)...I generally stay at home and do my own thing - a much needed break for Momma AND Leify!

Holding the kite while it sails in the wind, far overhead.

Jason has had a lot more time off lately, and has parlayed that into lots of good quality time with Leif, which they'd been unable to do consistently for a long time.  Now, everyone is happy!

I love this picture.  Leif was getting cold, so Jason gave him his shirt and hat to help keep him warm enough to keep flying their kite.

They've been having so much fun with their kiting, that are eagerly stepping in to the next realm of kite-flying: making their own kite.  They've been looking at plans and preparing lists of items to buy so that they can make their own box kite.  They're both giddy at the prospect, which is kinda funny. :)

Leify has been loving the extra time with his Daddy, especially with the added bonus of flying his kite!

In other news, I painted the fireplace this weekend.  I'm so excited about it - it really brightens the room up and takes away its cavelike qualities, or at least reduces them.  Unfortunately, I miscalculated (or didn't remember, is more like it!) how much spray primer I had left, so I ran out.  That means I can't totally finish the project until tomorrow at the earliest (hardware store has weird hours on the weekend!) but the main part is done.  I've been kicking back with my iced tea, fans blowing over me, and just admiring my lovely new fireplace.  Am I weird or what?

As soon as it's finished, I'll post pics (love me some before and after shots!) :)

In gardening news, the majority of my maters have officially kicked the bucket.  My one volunteer tomato is doing splendidly, though.  Go figure.  I'm going to transplant the few that are still living in to one spot on the garden, and plant the rest of the area that I'd saved for all the tomatoes with chard and the like.  We won't be seeing many tomatoes this year, but that's life!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  1. His concentration in the second photo is so cute it makes me want to cry! While this age is so hard for so many reasons, it's also full of such wonder and hard work to learn things (on their part.) What a sweet li'l guy.
Did Jason go shirtless? I can't wait to see pics of the completed fireplace. Go you!
